Counselling

Counselling is a professional service that supports you to develop a better understanding of yourself and those around you. It can help you to make changes in your life and address any difficulties you may be experiencing. Counselling provides both short and long term services, according to your needs. Counselling focuses on enhancing your capacity to cope with specific life challenges such as self confidence, communication issues,  anxiety, grief and loss. Counselling can assist you with resolving crises, reducing distress, developing goals for change and improving your wellbeing. Counselling can help you achieve a better understanding of yourself and change long-standing patterns of behaviour. Through counselling you can resolve issues you are unable to resolve yourself.

Interactive Drawing Therapy

Interactive Drawing Therapy is a unique page-based way of working with words, images and feelings to access different parts of the clients' deeper selves. The page becomes a mirror for you, helping you see yourself more objectively from new perspectives and facilitating insight, inner resourcefulness and profound change.

IDT requires no artistic talent, graphic skills or drawing ability; has no interest in aesthetic or creativity considerations and does not involve making art objects.

Transactional Analysis

As a counsellor, I use Transactional Analysis (TA) which is a theory of personality that gives a ready understanding of human behaviour. It offers a simple framework to improve interpersonal communication.

TA can help us understand why we do what we do. It helps us to understand what is going on inside ourselves and others and how we interact with each other. There are times we react in a certain situation and have no idea why - I can help you understand and then work on the emotions behind the reaction, enabling a healthy outcome where your needs can be met in an easy and peaceful manner.

TA provides us with the tools we need to improve communication with everyone around us.

Friends Walking Home

Walk and Talk Therapy

Walk and talk therapy is as it says - a confidential counselling session, whilst walking outside together. I will follow your pace, both in walking and counselling. Clients often find that walking shifts their emotions and leaves them feeling calm and relaxed. This therapy is not intended as exercise and your fitness level is not important. I have a number of beautiful parks and walks I use throughout Port Lincoln where there is space to walk, but also to sit and talk. All you need is comfortable clothes & shoes, a hat, sunscreen and a bottle of water for drinking.

Sandplay Therapy & Symbol Work

Sandplay is a "hands on" psychological work. It is a powerful therapeutic method that facilitates the psyche's natural capacity for healing. The client is given the possibility, by means of figures (symbols) and the arrangement of the sand in the area bounded by the sandbox, to set up a world corresponding to his or her inner state. In this manner, through free, creative play, unconcious processes are made visible in a three-dimensional form and a pictorial world comparable to the dream experience.

Sandplay Therapy has a background of over 75 years theoretical, clinical and practical application. It is considered one of the most effective and probably the safest therapeutic modality and is used by many counsellors & psychologists as a major extension or alternative to cognitive therapies among children, adolescents & adults.

Interpersonal Violence Support

Interpersonal violence support includes education on relationship "red flags", toxic behaviours and how to identify unhealthy relationship patterns. This can then provide the foundation for learning to address and build more satisfying, healthy and positive relationships in your life.

A healthy relationship involves open communication between partners where there is honesty, respect and trust; where each person should feel safe to make their own decisions without retribution or retaliation. There is no imbalance of power - each person is considered an equal in the relationship.

Booking Information

Once you have made a booking with me, you will receive a confirmation email. You will then receive a second email with a link to complete the Consent Form and Client Intake Form. These are for you to read, complete and sign before your first session. If you don't have time or would rather not complete these yourself, we can go through them together during your initial session.

We will meet either face to face in my counselling room, or online. I will listen to what is happening for you and take the time to learn about you and what you would like to achieve from your counselling sessions.

I will be led by you and what you would like to gain from your time with me.
